Jason felt a strong tap on his right shoulder. It was Cathy, holding out her glass to him for a toast. Her indelible smile ran across her face and her eyes were happy. Jason looked at her like the first time he ever saw her. A smile darted across his face, and he picked up his bottle to reciprocate her offer. Cathy knew Jason understood what she meant. “We’re better off this way Jason. Friends?” Jason thought for a second, but reconsidered. He knew he had to surrender, and that there was no point resisting. He gave Cathy an affirmative nod, raised his bottle to her and said, “Happy Birthday!”

Kip and Brad looked at each other, and then to Jason. Their eyes were inquisitive, but not enough to look interested. There were many things among them four that went unspoken, and whatever Jason and Cathy meant by their last conversation was one of those unspoken things. Cathy turned to them, she knew what was on their minds. “Relax guys, we’re all friends here!” and she raised glasses and bottles with the boys in their manly ritual of affirmation.

Writer’s note: this is NOT a true story

cathy knows that the love she's holding on to is the WRONG one? can't understand that part.... two people in love should, more than anything else, be bestfriends first. come to think of it, i never really understood why bestfriends are always afraid that they might lose what they have together once they allow themselves to fall in love with each other. i think that would've actually been great. coz no matter what happens in the end - whether they spend the rest of their lives in blissful matrimony or marry someone else - there will always be the friendship between them.

Cathy is so weak. She's afraid to speak out the truth in her heart. If she felt the same way as jason, why is she afraid of doing so? Whatever her thoughts..maybe she
views Love as a risk to take. She might think it might be painful but for me,the risk must be taken no matter how scarry or painful. For only then you'll experience the fullness of humanity and that is love.
There were times in our lives when we became afraid to fall in love because everytime we do, we get hurt. That's why it's called falling in love. You're not forced to fall. You just fall.Love is all there is, anyway.
For you jason...If you're really destined to be together, then you'll both be...Goodluck!cheers!

betskee and anonymous,

thanks! i jsut feel sometimes silence is a powerful ally. cathy traded jason's affections for something she thinks is deeper, and that is his friendship. one day, you'll be cathy, and you'll find your own jason. good luck! :)
